Manage Your Time Before it Manages You Time Management is critical for any business to be ran effectively and efficiently. It is very important to manage it so you can be more organized in your business and personal life. In this article there are four different things that you must do in order to manage your time effectively. So join me in the adventure of improving your time management skills. ? Separate your business and personal lives- This is very important and even myself as a business consultant and support specialist have a hard time doing this, but it's extremely important to do this. So how can you do this effectively, you ask? The best tip I can give you is to either get a separate office for your business away from home, or create some kind of mental separation. For example while you are working have somebody take your wife out for the day, or have someone watch your kids for a few hours. Doing this can really help you concentrate on the tasks at hand. ? Chunk up your time- This is a very helpful tip that even I use, and have increased my efficiency by about 25 percent. There are a number of ways to do this, here is a list: 1. Chunking up your time means making blocks of time for certain tasks, for example you can use 1 pm to 2 pm for phone calls only, and then use 2 pm to 2:30 pm for answering and writing emails. ? Plan your day- You should create yourself a To Do list for that day though... you should always create these lists the day before you plan on implementing it. At the end of the day You should do what's called a Return and Report , where you write everything you did for the day, and hold yourself accountable for what you did and did not do for the day that was on your list. So what happens when you are unable to complete everything on your to do list? Make another to do list for the next day and place these uncompleted tasks to be done first thing the next day. Then as you do that cross them off on the original To Do list. This will make a mental mark on your confidence levels because you are closing the book for that day, so to speak. ? Give yourself more time- So how do you give yourself more time? Even though there's only 24 hours in a day, you can make it seem like there's hundreds of hours in the day. How can this be? It's a two step process: 1. Systemize your day. You make a system of your responsibilities, and then find someone to replace you by doing those specific sets of responsibilities. You can get more information on this process from the book "E Myth Revisited: Why Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It" written by Micheal E Gerber. This book will teach you everything you need to know about systemizing and replacing yourself. If you implement these tips I know you can better manage your time, before it manages you. I wish you the best of luck with your business, and better managing your time!
