â€œSuns of Marchâ€ are six guys who have combined to form a band that has delighted tens of thousands across the Southeast and sold thousands of CD's.

Musically, â€œSuns of Marchâ€ possess undeniable talent. The founding member of the band is Michael Wright. Michaelâ€™s musical contributions are lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica. Michael, along with Charles Smith is from Montgomery, AL, where the band is based. Charles adds a different dimension to the band's sound on slide and lead guitar. The rhythm section consists of Kurt Butler (Montgomery, AL) on bass guitar and Steve Stewart (Miami, FL) on drums. Zebulon Bowles (Arcata, CA) contributes as well on electric fiddle and mandolin.

There is no substitute for seeing â€œSuns of Marchâ€ perform live. However, if you are unable to catch a performance, you can check out the bandâ€™s new album, Bulletproof Heart. The album contains eleven songs. Like chapters form novels, these songs combine to form more than just 3-minute statements but rather a story, an idea, and philosophy; thus, the band did not simply write songs, but an album. "Suns of March" produced the CD themselves. Jeff Tomei (Matchbox 20, Smashing Pumpkins, Jerry Cantrell) mixed Bulletproof Heart while Rodney Mills (Pearl Jam, REM, Journey) mastered it. Another element arose from the making of the disc; Eddie Wohlford joined the band on piano and organ. Eddie has played with such stars as Beth Neilson Chapman and â€œStyxâ€ guitarist Tommy Shaw.

Bulletproof Heart starts off with an up-tempo number: "I Need Love." The song is one of the closest numbers to mainstream the band has to offer; the track could easily fit into almost any popular music genre with its' memorable hooks.The third song on the album, San Jose, was the groups first single which gained exposure for the group in over 25 countries. The fourth track on Bulletproof Heart is an upbeat number called "Hanna." â€œHannaâ€ starts out with a country/southern rock feel, then, in the middle, there is a killer New Orleans / Dixieland jazz style take that comes out of nowhere. The only melancholy song on the album is entitled "Sentimental Moonlight." A very nice use of the violin in a classical sense is exhibited in this song. The latter part of the album contains a hard rock attitude. The song "I Learned It from You" is what everyone wants to say to that ex that just ripped his or her heart to shreds and the title track â€œBulletproof Heartâ€ solidified the groups fan base in over 40 countries. This entire album exhibits elements of Southern pride and hard rock edginess. Music on their terms.

One of the elements that makes "Suns of March" so unique is the use of the fiddle. Come on, how many rock bands use a fiddle? Or still use three part harmonies? Plain and simply they are doing it their way. No selling out. Just pure, soul felt music.

It is with great pleasure, Blunterettes, that I am able to introduce the first independent band whose CD has made me jump for joy, since I have taken over reviewing CDs here at BluntReview.com! / At first I received a four-song sampler CD from Suns of March, who hail from Montgomery, Alabama. Be still my musical heart! The southern influenced hard rockers have that proverbial "it" that we in the music biz look for. With some trepidation--worrying that the other songs on their CD might not be as good, I requested a copy of the full CD, "Bulletproof Heart'. The whole collection, I am happy to report did not let me down. / Hard rocking enough for the boys, and a tender side for the girls, vocalist Michael Wright has a wonderfully expressive voice. The title track "Bulletproof Heart" has a straight-ahead rock sound with great harmonies. "I Need Love" is reminiscent of The Black Crowes during their heyday. "San Jose" showcases fiddler Zebulon Bowles, whose wonderful technique shows an ease of hand, just enough to color the song without running amok. "Hanna" has a bit more country twang, with some great New Orleans-style trumpeting in the background. / I keep 20 CDs in my car - the ones that I want to listen to when I go for long drives, ones that I want to learn the lyrics so I can sing along on the highway.This CD has made it to my car. The founding member of the band, Michael Wright, and the four other guys has specialized their style round Southern Rock with some alternative influences like Folk rock and Hard rock. Their first album contains twelve tracks and Suns Of March produced the CD themselves. Their promo CD, Bulletproof Heart, only contains four of the twelve songs from the album, but it`s easy to understand the guyâ€™s recipe musically by listening to the four songs. I enjoy their cool style and this is songs that reach you easy with both a great rocking side and a more relaxing fine laid back attitude. With a combination of Southern Rock, Melodic rock, Folk Rock, Hard Rock and some alt/ country influences, this sounds absolutely brilliant! Vocalist Michael Wright has a fine melodic voice and I get a relaxing feel by listening to him. Songs like the title track Bulletproof Heart, San Jose and I Learned It From You are songs with both a touch of Southern Rock and Melodic rock, while with Sentimental Moonlight, the tempo slows down a bit, but what a fine written song. If I should compare this band with other bands, I thought they sounded like a mix of Beggars and Thieves, Brother Cane, Riverdogs and Enuff Z`nuff.
