Demo Recording - The fastest way to record your music.

Depending upon set up and set up times, we would record three or four songs per day session, complete with guide vocals that will be replaced later. We would record two to three takes per song. Because the band has recorded Live, there would be little room for error and you would have little opportunity to repair or overdub any particular Track afterwards.

Once all Tracks have been recorded, the vocalist(s) would then overdub their vocal parts onto each Track. We overdub vocals seperately because the recording is kept clean from other instruments, allowing us to edit the vocals where necessary and keep them prominent in a mix.
By the time all vocals have been recorded, the songs are ready to mix down and be mastered on to a CD for you to take home. Mastering is included at no extra charge. See Mastering

Production Recording - One Track a day (or maybe three over two days) with top-quality sounding results.

Again, after set up we would start recording Tracks - with emphasis first on getting good takes. All the other instruments recording at this stage are just laying guide Tracks for the drummers benefit. Once the beat maestro is happy with his efforts we move on to the overdubs.

The bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals would then in turn overdub their parts to the song giving us the opportunity to get every stage of the recording precise. The final results of each recorded instrument/vocals are sweeter sounding with the use of the best mic for each instrument. You also suffer no spill over any of the recorded Tracks - that is you can't hear the snare drum through the guitar mic etc. - this greatly increases the overall flexibility of each instrument recorded, allowing the producer to 'fly' the faders when mixing down - that is push certain elements of the tune, like a guitar solo, up and down in the mix at any point.
Because of overdubbing, we are also able to digitally edit parts from one part of a song to another - if the guitar in chorus two wasn't as good as chorus one, we just copy it. Cheating I know but that's how most producers achieve perfection. You could not do this if there is spill over the microphones - and that's what you'd have if you where just recording Tracks for a demo.
The time consumed in recording all parts of a song separately is about one day per song. This would however give the engineer more overall time to mix the Track and add any special effects that you may require for any one song.

Mastering
While the mastering process is quite often overlooked in many recording studios throughout the world, Reptor Productions offers it as an inclusive service when recording music with us.
Studios that don't offer a mastering process often let their customers take home a lack lustre or inferior sounding production when compared with music from their favourite CD collection. It is true to say that every commercial music CD you buy has been mastered.

So simply put, mastering is a 'tidy up' process done to music after it has been recorded and mixed, and before it is produced onto CD:

  • Place all the Tracks in order of how they should be heard when listening from beginning to end.
  • Equalise the music to remove and add any frequencies that are too StrONG or lacking.
  • Compress all the Tracks so that they sound fatter, tighter and with more punch.
  • Add a small amount of reverb if necessary to any/all of the Tracks for a characteristic live sound.
  • Increase the volume of each Track whilst removing unwanted spikes and sudden level increases.
  • Balance the level of each Track with one another so none seem too loud or too quite against one another
  • Create fade in/out, cross fades/pauses between each Track - even hide a bonus Track at the end of your CD!
  • Create Track indents so that you can access each Track like you would any commercial CD
  • Add CD Text to your CD if required
  • Create a Master CD and copies that can be duplicated or copied at home

Vocalists
We can record your vocals over backing Tracks. We have a comphrehensive range of backing Tracks in our library, or alternitavely you can bring your own. We simply set up your chosen Tracks in our live performance studio.
One hour per song is our recommendation so in half a day, you could get three or four Tracks completed, mixed and mastered on to CD ready for you to take home. Send them to loved ones, relatives, record companies, pop idol, auditions, fame academy....Listen to a low quality streaming sample of a recent recording by clicking HERE

Instrumentalists

DJ's
Use our own [Numark] or set up your decks and mixer in the studio. You can perform your one/two hour set while we undertake the recording of it. We can tidy up and edit any glitches you may have done half way through. Even splice in another Track or take one away!
Once satisfied with your performance the whole session would be mastered on to CD. This would lift the overall volume level of the mix and balance/tighten the sound up. We could put Track indents at the specified points that you want them, so you can move to a specific point on the CD like you would normally. We can also convert the entire mix to an MP3.
