Since starting to write creatively in 1989, Sean has worked in poetry – published 1995 – abstract painting – over 80 canvasses completed - art direction for film – 3 short films, 2000 – and video art, while taking a fine art masters degree – over 15 pieces produced, with ‘Fear/Acquiescence’ being shown at the Pay and Display exhibition, Farnham, Surrey, 2001 – before focussing once again on music. Whether the work is in song, video, poem or painting, a constant theme of Sean’s work is communication, and the many problems people endure due to their lack of understanding about how people interact in different ways. There are allegorical, metaphorical and visual/literary references throughout the work, and nothing is exactly as it seems. In painting, the style is strongly coloured abstraction, the viewer interpreting in their own subjective worldview as they give the picture time – comparisons have been with Patrick Heron, Wassily Kandinsky, Hans Hoffmann and Fiona Rae. The video art is almost completely opposite, having developed into a sombre, monochrome extended self-analysis idiom, through grief, transience and memory – like art as therapy, with references to Derek Jarman, Bruce Naumann and Samuel Beckett. Sean has played in a number of bands, beginning around 1989 as drummer in Hidden Instinct (pop-rock-covers, 89-90), through vocalist/guitarist/songwriter with Sweet Assassin (punk-rock, 90-92), Skank String (reggae-ish, 92-93), DGL (funk-rock, 93-94), Masafekt (rap-rock, 94-96) and Smack (trash, 98-2000), with over 50 gigs in full and a number of recording sessions completed. Gigs were played throughout South Wales and the south west of England at all sorts of venues, and in Istanbul a handful of acoustic solo sets at bars in Taksim, including U-Turn, Nefti (now closed) and Miss Teras (about to re-open). Recently he has been playing DJ sets of a fairly eclectic nature - for more information on this see the Newsss section of the Forum. The solo music is essentially pop, albeit of a pretty bizarre kind, ideas coming from the edges, and defying easy categorisation – through the releases, comparisons have been made to Talking Heads, The Flaming Lips, Stephen ‘Tin Tin’ Duffy, XTC, Lloyd Cole, Lou Reed, Blur, Nick Cave, Steve Malkmus, Badly Drawn Boy, Belle and Sebastian, Yo La Tengo and David Bowie. Fish Film Market live EP by It released on SeanParkerMusic/MySpace - Dec 2006 Vocalist/Guitarist in It, Istanbul based alternative rock four piece, 7 gigs - Sep 2006 - You Can Call My Name single, b/w Dont Keep a Gun Under Your Bed and Lizard (with DGL) released on Reptor Productions - Aug 2006 Istanbul album released by SeanParkerMusic/INgrooves - Jul 2006 Red Yellow Blue chosen as Track Of The Week by Reptor Productions - Mar 2006 Communication album released by seanbwparker.com/Trancey ltd - Jun 2005 Oh Brother EP released by Reptor Productions (also played on the One World Beat Special) - Mar 2005 Communication single released by Colchester Recordings (on the ‘Yeah, It’s Supposed to Sound like That…Volume II’ compilation) – Aug 2004 Hey Hey Hey single released by Bootleg Records/The White label – Jun 2004 Communication EP released by Caravan Music Promotions online – Apr 2004 Enough To Make You Scream single released by Colchester Recordings (on the Yeah, It’s Supposed to Sound Like That…Volume I’ compilation) – Oct 2003 Masters Fine Art degree received from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College - Oct 2003 Bachelor Fine Art degree received from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College - Jul 2001 Fear/Acquiescence video piece shown at the Pay and Display exhibition, James Hockey Gallery, Farnham, Surrey – Jul 2001 Appeared in Distance, Atonement and A Misty Early Morning short films, also Art Director on the former two - Mar 2000-Nov 2000 Vocalist/Guitarist in Smack, Aldershot based trash rock trio - Jan 1998-Dec 1998 Through Your Worldly Fight published by the Carmarthen
