Fused from a collection of musical elements that you would not usually associate with attacking riffs and dark melodies, Project Valkyrie is proving that you can have talent and still play metal. The band has its background in rock, pop, punk and metal of the 80's and 90's. The various band members have played in other bands and on their own, in front of huge crowds, and to one man and his dog. As formed in 2002; Peter Horton, Geraint Parry and former drummer Russ Johnson decided to do something heavier, darker, louder and more aggressive while still ensuring there was always a melody in the madness. Shawn Rene, a long time metal fan and musician, was recruited from playing guitar in a punk band to play bass. When the band moved their headquarters to Shrewsbury , Russ decided to bow out, favouring local offerings over a long cross-country commute. Phill Jones auditioned, and became PV's newest member, providing a solid drumming foundation to enable the band to take it to the next level. Over the last 2 years PV has moulded into a solid and professional outfit, building an excellent local following, as well as sharing bills with bands such as 4 Way Kill, Razorwire, Long Time Dead, Exhibit A, Burnt and Agent Blue. The culmination of this hard work has resulted in the bands debut album “The Battle For Valhalla” being released on Psychophonic Records later this year. While PV steers clear of the over-engineered complexity popular in today's metal, they worship the gods of melody and power, paying homage with their screaming guitars, pounding bass, and vocals that'll rip your face off…
