Dark and trippy dub influenced downtempo electronica containing live instruments and occasional vocals. GROUSE is San Francisco based musician/ producer Ronan Carroll. It is an outlet for his electronic, dub and ambient influenced productions. Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Ronan moved to California from his hometown in 1994. Ronan has been involved in music, in some way, all his life and it was around the time he joined heavy touring rock band Tempest, as the guitar player, that he was also putting together his home studio and composing beats. He had become heavily under the influence of dub-inspired downtempo and trip-hop and, as he dived into the production side of things, the first tunes to evolve reflected this, as well as his live music background and eclectic tastes. With the help of guest musicians, like vocalist Aoife Hand and trumpeter Brian Switzer, tracks were composed, mixed and remixed and in April 2005 the full length album, "We Want To Be Loved", was released on Carroll's own Babyfly Records. The result is a collection of "downtempo abstract creations layered with atmospheric synths, samples, sparse drum beats and a whirlwind of looped effects", or, putting it another way, "San Franciscan ambient dub that howls with thick bass and deep sonic textures". (Smother.net) The occasional female vocals are "haunting and soothing in their sound", (Indie-Music.com), and the overall result is "rewardingly dreamy". (SonicCuriosity.com) The album has been described as, "multi-layered", with, "funky beats and soothing melodies", a "stunning debut", and, "with each listen something new is discovered." (CDbaby.com). Tracks from the album have been featured in a documentary shown on Irish network television as well as appearing on the nationally broadcast PRI show "Echoes", with John Diliberto, and web radio like Groovera, Jazzy Lounge, Deep Intense, Smooth Lounge, BeOS and various college radio stations around the U.S. Ronan recently left Tempest giving him more time and energy to concentrate on his own productions
