Evolve is the brainchild of composer/producer Red Broad. Having spent enough time producing projects for other artists, Red felt that it was about time to forge ahead with his own music and in 2005 Evolve was born.
From his very first foray into creating music, Red loved experimenting with found sound and weird synthesizer patches, steering away from anything that was too formulaic. However such are the dictates of the music business that making a living often over ruled art and Red found himself only too often compromising what he believed in.

Fueled by a desire to create music from the heart and not the wallet, Red wanted to return to his roots. To enjoy the freedom of writing music with a less confining structure and format, but that still employed solid songwriting at its core. Most of all he wanted to return to writing music that he enjoyed.

Evolve is the natural process of evolution from those early days of experimentation.

Evolve's chilled out grooves and breaks are produced by Red. Their debut outing, Happy Hour In The Gene Pool is a delightful blend of lounge pop, subtle beats, found sound, and mellow jazz influences, a lounge lizard’s idea of heaven on Earth. The overall vibe is predominantly mellow, and the arrangements ooze sophistication and depth. Singer Margo Reymundo features on two tracks contributing her distinctive raspy, Billy Holiday-esque jazzy vocal stylings to "Couldn't Be More Wrong" and "The Way Back", with rapper Tantrum providing the testosterone on "By Definition: Cool" and "Mice On The Ice". Happy Hour In The Gene Pool manages to stay focused and coherent throughout it’s sixty plus minutes while providing enough diversity to maintain interest, and enough depth to sustain repeated listenings. Most of the tracks presented here are ripe for the plucking by nearly any of the hundreds of chill out mix albums being released. The album is equally enjoyable to chill out to whether on headphones, at a cocktail party or on a long drive. Happy Hour In The Gene Pool contains a little something for every electronica music fan, which, in this case, is a good thing.

Evolve's Happy Hour In the Gene Pool is a must have for lovers of downtempo, trip hop and jazz laced lounge grooves. What could easily be called the Evolution of Downtempo & Lounge for me is more like the perfection of chilled and downbeat grooves. Harvested at just the right time Evolve taps into that euphoric nerve center that makes everything alright. The album s mix of jazzy lounge grooves sprinkled with some hip hop flavor make this CD a clear favorite for those wanting to chill after a long days work or anytime. Mixed to perfection, the CD carries you smoothly with style and subtleness and just as a finely mixed drink hits you with an intoxicating buzz that will make you smile and yearn for more. Excellent production quality and musical arrangements highlight this CD and attest to the skills of producer, mixer and song writer Red. Fresh food and great recipes are nice on the own, but it takes a talented chef to bring the right components together mixed and seasoned to perfection. Red s supporting cast, Chris Barron, Freddy Kron, Evan Avery Margo Reymundo and Tantrum certainly do just that.
